Life is like an amusement park

I don't know much about Bill Hicks. What I do know is that he sounds amazing venting over a Sugur Ros track. My friend Tom Fish pointed this out to me and I have been enjoying it since. Watch out for Ron Paul - L A D.

Also, how ridiculously amazing is the new series of The Thick of It?!!?

Check out some behind the scenes shit. it's awesome (thanks charles).

Numb

This is the new video from everyones favourite LA band No Age. I literally love these guys, I saw them the other day and they did my bloody ears in.

This is the kind of video that I would like to be able to just knock out nonchalantly. If Chris ever returns my charger....

I Heart College?

I know I'm a bit late on this, but Asher Roth seems to be taking the world by storm somewhat. His song 'I Love College' is literally everywhere and I have some qualms about it. Mainly, that it portrays such a cringe-makingly simple and stereotypical representation of "college". I'll just give you a few gems of his:

"That party last night was awfully crazy I wish we taped it
I danced my ass off and had this one girl completely naked
Drink my beer and smoke my weed but my good friends is all I need
Pass out at 3, wake up at 10, go out to eat then do it again"

and another

"Man, I love college, ay!
And I love drinking, ay!
I love women, ay!
Man, I love college"

Towards the end of the song he starts chanting "freshman", "keg stand" and "do something crazy" (nothing like pre-empted mentalness)

Now I know that to pull apart lyrics is all to easy, particularly with mainstream music, but some of this does genuinely make me feel a little bit ill... added to which the video takes this fromage to the next level... CANT EMBED IT AS I CANT FIND IT

BUT

despite all this, I can't help but like the song. It's horribly catchy, and ignoring the endless cliche, is quite enjoyable.

I'm not too sure what the purpose of this post was, maybe to vent. I'm kind of annoyed with myself that I like it I suppose. It's weird that there can be so much going against a song yet it's still likeable

Chimpanzee riding on a segway.

My friend Adam loves monkeys and segways, so this is pretty much heaven for him...

I'm pretty sure chimpanzees aren't monkeys though.

Facefuck

Facebook deleted my account last night. The c-words.

Basically, I was adding people for my clubnight and suddenly Facebook just cuts out. I've lost all my photos, friends, threads - it's not the end of the world but it is a fairly sizeable annoyance.

You forget how much you rely on it when you use it so absent-mindedly the whole time and so I think it could be a good thing in the end. Stop looking at photos of people I don't even know, and just reduce the general scale of "life-wastage"

Anyway, now for a picture of some mice playing brass.

Got to love Stumble.

Funny Shit.

First single from the aforementioned Tinted Window

I don't understand how this happened. Do you reckon Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins and Fountains of Wayne were all just chilling out when suddenly Taylor (of Hanson) says "Now don't get me wrong, MmBop, Penny & Me, and others were great songs. But imagine, just imagine, if we took all of our musical talents and formed the worlds greatest superband. We could call it Tinted Windows, you know, like the one in cars. I think that would be a pretty 'rad' name"

The rest is history.

Thursday 19 February 2009

The best super-band ever!

Just found this on Pitchfork. It is hillarious...

"According to Billboard.com, there's a new band that exists on earth called Tinted Windows featuring former Smashing Pumpkin James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, handsome Hanson brother Taylor, and Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger.
I am looking at my calendar right now. It is not April 1.

A couple things while my mind is still barely stuck together: You put together one of the most random something-groups ever and the best name you can come up with is Tinted Windows?! Is that a play on the secretive nature of the group? Do they all wear Men in Black shades on stage? Is this a Blues Brothers revival act? But, really, if you're going to go "Tinted" why not go all the way, like Blacked Out. Or Smashed Windows. Well, maybe not "Smashed." Hm. At least a moniker with some confidence, some commitment. As of now, this band is like the transition lenses of something-groups.
The union sort of makes sense considering Iha and Schlesinger co-own a studio and Taylor Hanson seems like an all-around good guy...but still.

Apparently, the band have already recorded their debut album in New York and are set to make their big time live splash at Billboard's SXSW showcase March 20 in Austin."

Debut album comes out on April 21 motherfuckers.

Too long mutha'uckas.

I'm a terrible person. Yada Yada

Anyway,

I have been busy actually doing stuff so it ain't my fault...

I am running the marathon these days. It's for a charity called Depaul. They're a homeless charity, check 'em out: http://www.depaulnightstopuk.org/content/depaul-uk-home

Additionally, HeartBeats is this week and I've been putting in the work towards that. Charles and I are shitting it but hopefully it will go okay. We is gonna be laying down some disgusting beats. Disgusting.

Exciting stuff that happened recently:

Christian Bales schitzophrenia

Snow...

To be honest, the whole snow thing was a little bitter-sweet. I mean on the one hand I was really pissed off that Manchester got FUCK all snow. I pretty much moved to the North specifically because it boosted my chances of seeing some top quality neige. The irony is that my house had like 8 inches and my brother's school was cancelled for three days. This peeved me somewhat, it left me miffed you could say. Then on the other hand, snow only has novelty for like a day and a half (less if you have inappropriate cold weather clothing) and the chaos it caused did not sound very hootenanny-esque.

Stuff I'm digging:

Passion Pit

The Dutchess & The Duke

Lil Wayne winning grammys...

No video?!?!
Read this instead: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/149031-grammy-awards-superlatives

I watched Revolutionary Road. It was brilliant. But a sad motherfucker

The Kills are releasing a new EP with my favourite song of theirs on. The video is real nice:

I went to a Friendly Fires DJ set the other night. It was good but they had Florence from Florence and the Machine also do a set. Worst thing I have ever seen. Did it off her ipod didn't she. Wish I had photographic proof so bad right now.

That's it for now.
I'm trying to get back in the blog game but it's hard. I is watching too many for my own good.

Mafletics...

Today I learnt how to:

Differentiate
Do Matrices
Do Logarithms
Work out slopes
Find minimas and maximas
Loads of other Math-related shit

I feel like such a poon-daddy right now. It must have been why Einstein did it. Although he wasn;t struggling with early AS-Level Maths but hey-ho.

Below: A whole load of REALLY funny Maths shit.

I genuinely find it very hard to understand any of these gags.

Sunday 25 January 2009

Oh shit....

Also, Alan Davies whipped out the best joke ever on Q.I on Friday.

"You hear the one about the two Spanish firemen?"
"Jose and Jose B"

Just realised it doesn't work written down as such.

Oh well.

I TAL ICS

The whole of that last post was in itallics for some reason.

Slantage.

First Love...

I just illegalled Emmy The Great's debut album. It's been AGES coming but it's as awesome as I'd hoped. The production on the record is really cool. The adjective that springs to mind is nice. All these folk albums that are coming out at the moment seem really prone to being over-produced with ridiculous string sections during every gap etc. First Love is really well balanced...

Check out The Easter Parade, Dylan, The City Song. Or just listen to the whole thing like you should do.

Check out myspace...

HeartBeats.

Charlie and I finally had our clubnight confirmed yesterday so we are super happy. It's all jolly exciting having something to do. Look at the flyer... fun!

However, there is loads to do: design flyers, posters, order flyers, apply for flyering license, do the flyering, download a whole shit load of music, attack people left right and centre on facebook and myspace, other day-to-day admin. It's a hassle. I don't really know what my point is here to be honest, I just felt like making a really long list. It's not even that long.

i am in possession of the new Franz album. It's not the tour de force that no one was expecting but it's still pretty fun. I can not get My Girls by Animal Collective out of my head. It's just amazing. I also just got a remix of it by some fellow called Dave Wrangler which is just as good.

Tottenham drew today. bleh bleh bleh.

I found a funny little anime-esque cartoon of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas today. I wonder if that's meant to be the Samoan on the right?! I like it...

Now listening - Belle & Sebastien - Stars of Track and Field (If You're Feeling Sinister)
